LUES TRANSITION NIGHT INFORMATION

Celebrating Excellence in Community Engagement
Congratulations to Dr. Kelle Sumrall and Mrs. Lindsay McGregor, science teachers at LMS, for receiving the 2025 Excellence in Community Engagement Award with Distinction from the University of Mississippi’s Office of Community Engagement!
Each year, this prestigious honor is awarded to only two projects recognized for outstanding community collaboration and impact. Dr. Sumrall and Mrs. McGregor have partnered with Dr. Joe Sumrall and his EDCI 320/520 class at Ole Miss for the past four years, engaging in dynamic, project-based learning experiences that benefit both K-12 and college students.
Thanks to the Community Partnership Development Fund Grant, their students have explored science through hands-on projects like rocket launches, raised garden beds, bird and hummingbird feeders, and even earthworm farms. With support from local organic farmers, 7th-grade students have also grown their own produce and flowers.
We are incredibly proud of Dr. Sumrall and Mrs. McGregor for their dedication to innovative science education.

TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL (HOURS)
The second grade QUEST students had a blast last Thursday night at their LES Lock-In. The gift of making memories.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The sixth-grade student council has been very busy making a difference at school and in the community. This week, they held a ribbon-cutting for their Pantry Program, also known as The Snack Shack—a place where students can grab a snack when needed. They spent some of the money raised to buy snacks and learning how to work with a budget. Students can also contribute by helping stock the cabinet if they choose. This program is all about giving back. Also this week, the student visited Beau Ridge Community Center, where they stuffed Easter eggs, participated in a jazzercise workout, and visited many of the residents.

ART COLLABORATION
Ms. Amy’s 2nd-grade artists from Ms. Holcomb’s class at LES dreamed up their very own Squishmallow characters on paper. Then, the talented students in Mrs. Patton’s Art 2 class at LMS took those designs and worked their magic—turning them into real 3D Squishmallows using felt and other fun materials!
The middle schoolers made a special trip to LES to personally deliver each custom-made Squishmallow to its proud 2nd-grade designer.
This heartwarming collaboration is a perfect example of how art connects us across grades and campuses.

LCSD will be closed this Friday, April 18, 2025. We will reopen on Monday!

LES MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Last Thursday, our second-grade students lit up the stage with an outstanding musical performance!
Thank you to our LES music teacher, Ms. Dubard, and students! Throughout the year, she has introduced our LES Commodores to all forms of music and a wide variety of instruments.
