CONGRATULATIONS LHS CHOIRS! Congratulations to the LHS Choirs, who took home ALL SUPERIOR awards at yesterday’s State Performance Assessment! LHS Mixed Choir received “superior” for sight reading with a PERFECT score and “superior” for performance. LHS Mixed Sextet received “superior” for performance. LHS Women’s Octet received “superior” for performance.

Author Visit Inspires Young Writers Our 3rd–6th grade QUEST students had the opportunity to meet Mr. Jimmy Reed, a local author and retired English professor, during a special visit. Mr. Reed captivated students with readings from his newly published children's collection and shared insights into the creative writing process. He also highlighted the power of alliteration in storytelling, encouraging students to explore their own literary creativity. With a rich background in writing, Mr. Reed is also the author of "The JayBird Tales" and "The Complete Reed."

LEAD2 Students Inspire Young Readers! Ms. Smith’s LEAD2 classes at LMS celebrated Read Across America by reading to kindergarten and 1st-grade students! This collaboration gave our older students the chance to mentor and be positive role models while sharing their love for reading. Watching the joy and excitement on the younger students’ faces reminds us of the power of literacy and the impact of student leadership.

March Madness Reading Bracket Congratulations to Lorelei Stewart- champion of Mr. Kyzar’s Reading March Madness Bracket! Celebrating Our Regional Science Fair Achievements We are incredibly proud of our students in grades 3-6 who showcased their hard work at the Regional Science Fair at the University of Mississippi on March 19th. A special congratulations to the eight students who earned awards at the competition! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 20, 2025 Local fire departments and community efforts thwart grass fire behind the athletics facilities Oxford, MS - On Wednesday, March 19, at approximately 5:30 pm., Lafayette County Fire Department (LCFD), Oxford Fire Department (OFD), and Forestry community members responded to a grass fire behind the baseball and softball facilities adjacent to the Oxford Country Club. We are grateful for the quick response and collaboration among all responders as they worked to control the fire, dig trenches to avoid its spread and save the structures. The scene was contained and cleared by approximately 7:30 pm. We want to thank all our first responders and members of the local forestry community for their care and response. We are fortunate to be part of a community genuinely Anchored to Excellence.

We are grateful to the Lafayette County Literacy Council for visiting as part of the Children's Book Festival! Our 1st graders enjoyed a reading session and received a copy of "Rocket Puppies" by William Joyce. They are looking forward to meeting the author tomorrow! Thank you for inspiring a love of reading in our students!
