LCSD will be closed from November 24 through November 28 for the Thanksgiving Break Holiday. Classes will resume on Monday, December 1.
Mrs. Threlkeld’s first-grade class celebrated a Thanksgiving feast after learning about the Pilgrims, Native Americans, and the first Thanksgiving. Students enjoyed a tasty meal and had fun creating simple costumes to bring their lessons to life.
Ms. Buesseler’s first-grade class at LES explored adjectives in a delicious way! Students practiced using descriptive words while enjoying ice cream and sharing all the ways they could describe it.
Our 2nd graders at LES recently enjoyed a hands-on learning experience while studying the story of Johnny Appleseed. Students read and answered comprehension questions using informational text, created Apple Pie in a Cup, sequenced the steps of the recipe, and even graphed results from an apple taste test.
Last Friday, Mrs. Polston’s Kindergarten class wrapped up a week of hard work with a festive Fun Friday! After reading "The Biggest Pumpkin Ever," students painted their own Jack-o'-Lanterns and enjoyed a special visit from guest readers with the Mortar Board at Ole Miss.
First Grade Fun with Adjectives!
Our first graders in Mrs. Porter’s and Mrs. Threlkeld’s classes are learning about adjectives with help from Spookley the Square Pumpkin! Students brainstormed adjectives to describe Spookley, created their own unique pumpkins, and enjoyed a special Spookley-themed snack to accompany the story.
We’re proud to recognize our elementary students who achieved perfect attendance for the 1st nine weeks! These dedicated Commodores enjoyed a special breakfast with donuts, juice, and ribbons to celebrate their accomplishments.

LES Kindergarten Field Trip
Our Kindergartners had a fantastic day at Bull Bottom Farms in Duck Hill, MS. The students enjoyed a hands-on learning experience and created many memories!
50th DAY OF SCHOOL
Our Pre-K students marked the 50th day of school in style last Friday! They enjoyed Coke floats, games, and plenty of fun as they celebrated this milestone together.
Hands-on Math Fun in 2nd Grade!
Ms. Sicks’ and Mrs. Williams’ 2nd graders put their math skills into action by using Play-Doh to build rectangular array models. After creating their arrays, students wrote equations with repeated addition. This multi-sensory activity made learning both fun and meaningful, helping to deepen their understanding of addition.
Thank you to the Oxford Police Department and Northeast MS Power Association for visiting our Kindergarteners! As part of their Community Helpers unit, students learned how people in our community work together to keep us safe and connected.
Our LES 2nd graders have been busy combining creativity and design! Students started by sketching a blueprint for a painted rock, then brought their ideas to life with bright colors and designs. Each student chose to take their rock home as a keepsake or leave it in the LES garden to share with everyone who visits.
Last week, Ms. Gatlin’s PreK students discovered a walking stick while playing outside, and Ms. Migues’ class celebrated the first fall-like day with outdoor centers. What a wonderful way to welcome September!
This week, our students enjoyed the Move to Learn wellness program!
The free initiative promotes student activity, focus, and energy through short, fun activity breaks. Students also learned valuable healthy living tips on sleep, hydration, and respectful communication, led by the engaging Move to Learn Coach.

Mrs. Threlkeld’s first-grade class marked National Lemonade Day with hands-on learning experiences. Students enjoyed lemonade and lemon cookies, practiced descriptive writing, and applied math skills through “lemonade addition” activities.

Mrs. Porter’s first graders practiced the short vowel a last week with apple-themed activities. Students enjoyed an apple tasting, wrote about their favorite apple color, made apple hats, and listened to an apple read-aloud.
