Why aren't school meals free?

The USDA made it possible for school nutrition programs to serve all students free breakfast and lunch during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years through “waivers”.


Congress did not extend these waivers for the upcoming school year, so we will return to regularly priced meals.


Breakfast: $1.75


Lunch: $2.75


Please complete the Meal Benefit Application, which is available as an online Application. If you are unable to fill out this application online, be on the lookout for the neon colored free and reduced form in your child’s backpack. This form was sent home to you during the 1st week of school! You are only required to fill out one form per household - be sure to list all children attending Lafayette County Schools on the form. Don’t forget other children/adults you provide care for as well. 


These forms will be processed as quickly as possible. You will receive a letter from Child Nutrition as soon as the application has been processed.
