April 14, 2020

School closure extended

April 14, 2020, 3:00 PM. During a press conference today, Governor Tate Reeves mandated that school buildings remain closed for the remainder of the semester. This does not suspend the rest of the term. LCSD will continue with distance learning and requirements to finish out the school year. Meals will also continue to be provided to our students at the pick-up locations.

We will provide you with more information soon regarding grade promotions and graduation. Continue to follow our website and social media accounts for more information.

As per the mandate of Governor Tate Reeves, Lafayette County schools will remain closed until April 17, 2020. In response, the Mississippi Board of Education moved to cancel state testing for this school year. 

Decisions are being made daily, and even hourly. We continue to stay anchored to serving our students and community. 

We are working on plans to move forward with your child's education and will be providing information soon. Teachers are beginning to reach out to gather more information, please respond as soon as possible. 

Your safety and your child's education and well-being is our top priority. Please know that we miss them and will continue to work hard for them in the coming days. Stay safe and stay "Anchored to Excellence."

LHS Prom
The original date for Prom 2020 of March 28, 2020, has been moved out to May 2, 2020. This could change depending on where things go with the pandemic.

Food Distribution Information

Oxford School District will be providing food pick up locations for ALL students. Due to this being a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture program, Lafayette County School students and families can also get a meal at these locations. Adults may purchase meals. Starts Tuesday, March 17th.

  • Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 27, OSD will provide free meals on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for ALL children (18 years of age and under). Adults can also purchase meals for $2 at these locations. 
  •  Students do not need to enter a building for pick-up. Families should look for an OSD school bus in the parking lot at each location. Meals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Because this is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program, Lafayette County School students and families may also take advantage of these nutritious meals.
  • Meal Pick-Up Sites* from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.:

Oxford Middle School (222 Bramlett Boulevard)

C.B. Webb Townhomes (2223 Delores Drive)

Brittany Woods Subdivision (Hwy 6)

Wayne Johnson Apartments (900 Molly Barr Road)

Western Hills Area (Near Anchorage Road)

*These locations are subject to change.

  • Mid South Mobile Food Bank truck will be set up at the new Lafayette County Arena, 70 F.D. Buddy E Pkwy, Oxford, on Wednesday, March 25th starting at 10 a.m. They will serve the first 500 families so getting there early will be beneficial.

MHSAA Press release:

Effective immediately, March 16, all MHSAA interscholastic sports and fine-arts activities competition and practice is suspended through March 29 and until further notice. This suspension applies whether or not a school is open or closed during this timeline."

The Lafayette County School District is canceling school, all sports, and extracurricular activities on Monday, March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th. District and School Administrators are monitoring the current information from the Mississippi Department of Education, the Mississippi State Department of Health, and the Governor’s Office regarding COVID-19. This is a fluid situation and further decisions will be made regarding additional necessary precautions.


Grab-N-Go Meals

The meals will include breakfast and lunch.  Any child ages (1-18) may get meals.  Meals will not be for sale and are only available for children.
