April 27, 2020
Lafayette County School District

We are excited to announce that Lafayette High School seniors will each have a private graduation ceremony. Seniors and up to 5 family members will be allowed to attend an individual ceremony at the Lafayette Middle School auditorium on May 19, 20, 21, or 22. Each graduate will receive their diploma and turn their tassel to signify their graduation from LHS.

As part of the celebration, seniors will have an opportunity to have a final walk through the LHS Commons and main hallway en route to LMS.

During graduation week, each senior will be filmed as they drive through to pick-up their cap and gown. This “Parade of Seniors” will serve as the processional for the graduation ceremony.

The class Commencement will be livestreamed at 6:00 p.m. on May 22, 2020, on the district website, Dores Roku channel, Firestick, and social media. Because LHS is conducting the individual ceremonies during the week of graduation, the May 22 graduation will have a senior picture when each graduate’s name is called. A second airing of the graduation will take place on June 5 with the individual ceremonies in place of the senior picture.

Graduation 2020 will include all of the traditional components including a processional, speeches by the class Salutatorian and Valedictorian, music by senior members of the LHS choir, awards and recognition of each senior, and the calling of each senior’s name.

We are also excited that LHS seniors will keep their graduation cap and gown this year. The addition of keeping the gown will allow seniors to have both available for other possible events throughout the summer such as family celebrations, church events, a campus event, or any gatherings where our seniors may be celebrated.

This is a milestone for each of our seniors and the class as a whole. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to celebrating with them. Our Commodores are Anchored to Excellence, and they are going to do great things.
