Lafayette High School Cheer Squad Excels At Cheer Camp

The Lafayette High School (LHS) cheer squad recently attended a four-day cheer camp hosted by the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) at Ole Miss Camp 1 and had great success throughout the week. The Lafayette High School cheer team won the superior award in every category, which is the highest level a squad can receive for their camp routines.

The LHS cheer squad has 27 members ranging from 7th-12th grade working together to be the best team they can be. At the camp, the squad gained many new skills. The team learned a game day routine, crowd cheers, sideline routines, and an extreme routine.

However, the UCA cheer camp is more than stunts, jumps, and tumbling. The girls learned many valuable life skills throughout the week. The UCA camp hosted leadership classes, taught communication skills, team building, and goal setting.

"At the camp, we talked a lot about the importance of the girl’s leadership roles,” cheer coach Avery Lorick said. “Our squad does more than cheer; they are a part of something bigger. They serve as role models and ambassadors to the school and community.”
